Common questions

Is my data private?

Yes. Kepto has no account, no ads, and no tracking, and there are no Retriever Labs servers that ever receive your data. Your receipts and records are processed and stored on your device.

Where is my data stored?

On your device. We never hold a copy.

On iPhone

iCloud Sync is on by default, so your data is also kept in your own private iCloud account. You can turn it off in Settings → Sync & Backup.

On Android

If you turn on Back up to Google in Settings (off by default), your data is backed up to your own Google account.

Will my receipts sync to my other devices?

On iPhone

Yes. With iCloud Sync on, items sync across the Apple devices signed into the same Apple ID, directly through Apple.

On Android

Android uses backup-and-restore rather than continuous sync. Your data is restored when you reinstall Kepto or set up a new device with Back up to Google enabled.

I got a new phone, or reinstalled the app. Will my data come back?

On iPhone

Yes, if iCloud Sync was on — sign into the same Apple ID and your cabinet returns.

On Android

Yes, if Back up to Google was on — sign into the same Google account during setup.

If neither was turned on, your data lived only on the old device and can't be recovered, because we never had a copy.

Does Kepto need the internet?

No. Scanning, parsing, reminders, and everything else run on your device, so Kepto works fully offline. On Android the app doesn't even request internet permission.

How does receipt scanning work?

You snap a receipt and Kepto reads the item, store, date, and price — entirely on your phone. The image never leaves your device.

On iPhone

Apple's Vision framework handles the text, and on supported devices with Apple Intelligence, Apple's on-device Foundation Models extract the details.

On Android

Google's ML Kit handles the text, and on supported devices Google AI Edge extracts the details.

What does Kepto Premium include, and how do I restore it?

Premium is a one-time purchase that unlocks unlimited items, PDF and CSV exports, and more. You can restore a previous purchase any time from the upgrade screen.

On iPhone

Handled by Apple's StoreKit.

On Android

Handled by Google Play Billing.

How do I export my data?

Use Export in Settings to create a PDF or CSV of your items and share it wherever you like — AirDrop, email, Files, or Drive. The choice of where it goes is yours.
